Dirección de Transferencia y Desarrollo UC
LabToMarket: a platform for science-based startups

In mid-2020, the Dirección de Transferencia y Desarrollo of the Pontificia Universidad Católica — the university's technology transfer office — came to us to build a platform for science-based founders in Chile and Latin America.
- 60.000+organic visits since 2020
- <1 monthto a live site
The challenge
Science-based startups tend to struggle to raise funding, especially in their earliest stages. Several things get in the way: little experience in fundraising, difficulty explaining the value of their technology, and limited access to investor networks.
The site set out to be a place where science founders across Chile and Latin America could find information and practical tools.
The broad requirements for the platform were:
- Run live webinars, with registration and streaming handled on the platform itself.
- A courses and workshops section, to link out to and host content from other platforms.
- Give the site a visual identity connected to science, technology and innovation.
What we did
Research
We benchmarked comparable platforms from the regional and global innovation ecosystem, looking closely at their design and their information architecture. That groundwork led to a proposal for a site that would be appealing, intuitive and genuinely close to the world of researchers and technology founders.
Solution
We built a minimal, professional site that echoes the UC visual identity without imitating it. Navigation is intuitive: the menu is organized into categories, each with subcategories that make the content easy to browse and quick to search.
The site is responsive, with a smooth browsing experience on desktop and on mobile devices.
We worked in agile cycles, so the site was live less than a month after the project started and new sections went up as their content became ready. That gave end users early access to the platform.
Results
Since launch, the site has delivered content and live experiences without interruption, adding up to more than 60.000 organic visits since it went online in 2020.
