The challenge
Context
Docomomo is an international organization dedicated to documenting and conserving the buildings, sites, and neighborhoods of the Modern Movement. Its mission includes safeguarding significant modern buildings when they are threatened, exchanging knowledge about conservation technologies, and promoting responsibility for architectural heritage.
Since its creation in 2004, Docomomo Chile has maintained an active program for sharing and promoting modern heritage, documenting more than 2,000 cases throughout the country.
In 2024, Chile hosted Docomomo's 18th international conference, focused on current global challenges. It was the first edition held in South America, in a country where geography and architecture have a particularly close relationship.
Discovery
For this event, our team was challenged to shape the digital space that would bring together all participant-facing information. The website needed to support clear navigation, explain the paper submission process, and help international attendees travel to Chile safely and well informed.
The brief involved a large volume of information across the main navigation and internal pages. Through working sessions with the client, we refined the information architecture to create a more fluid and intuitive experience.
Visually, the website needed to inherit the typography, colors, shapes, and layout language of the conference's existing print materials.
The experience had to serve three different audiences:
- Organizers needed a functional back office and a high degree of autonomy when publishing content.
- Speakers needed a straightforward way to find information, propose sessions, and upload submissions.
- Attendees needed simple access to the program, events, and activities surrounding the international conference.
What we did
The schedule was tight, so we used an agile delivery process to release an early functional version while continuing to build the complete experience.
We first created the sections needed for the event's initial stage, including information about the organization and essential participant content. From there, the project expanded progressively, with additional pages released until the final version was complete.
Results
Through the submission platform connected to the website, Docomomo Chile received 512 abstract proposals for the conference, meeting a central objective for the platform.
